Peace, quiet and some reading time in rural India

A sense of joy and a smile came upon me when I saw this old man reading on his front porch, as I drove past this small village less than 10 kms from Umred.  What amused me the most was the simple setting – peace, quiet, a bed, a jug of water and something to read.

Most people assume that rural India is mostly illiterate. But, this gives me hope.

It’s not all gloom and doom. You will find rural India more ready than it ever was to provide education to their kids. Having said that, I do worry about the quality of education available to kids in these villages.

I dream of an equal opportunity world someday irrespective of location, no matter how remote. It seems more possible with technology and the internet. It is not hard to imagine his next generation – sitting on the same porch – except with an iPad in hand looking for the best methods of farming from across the globe.
